Route Challenge ratings

Suitable for anyone who enjoys a reasonably active life. The pace is gentle and the terrain flat to undulating. Distances no more than 30 miles (50km).


Suitable for those with slightly more cycling experience. the terrain can be a little hillier than grade 1.5 and distances up to 45 miles (70km).


For the regular and reasonably fit cyclist. The terrain may include some challenging hills and distances up to 75 miles (110km).


These routes require a good level of fitness and stamina and feature challenging inclines and/or a longer time in the saddle. Distances can be up to 100 miles (160km).

Come and experience the beautiful scenery and appealing culture of the Lake Garda region - without the hassle of having to change your hotel! From your base by Lake Garda, this cycling tour visits the cities of Trento, Verona, Brescia, and Mantua with their Renaissance palaces and squares, Romanesque cathedrals and antique forums. And after a day in the saddle, you can cool off in the gentle waters of Lake Garda itself - or enjoy some of the many wonderful wines for which the Veneto region is known.

There are 3 hotel options available:
Hotel Lido International 4**** (Desenzano) - A few minutes walk from the beautiful harbour city of Desenzano. The rooms have a balcony and lake view. The hotel has a lovely terrace, sunbathing area, pool with views over the lake and a private shingle beach ensuring you have a relaxing evening after your cycling excursions.
Hotel Miramar 3*** (Sirmione) - The hotel is just a few minutes walk from the lovely old city of Sirmione. The beautiful garden has a pool. Rooms are air conditioned and have a balcony with lake view.
Hotel Suisse 3*** (Sirmione) - The hotel is located on the small penninsula of Sirmione. All rooms have been renovated quite recently, have air-conditioning and balcony with sea views. After a day cycling you can relax in the new pool or on the sun terrace.

The cost of the holiday does NOT include flights, which must be self-booked (please see below).

Please note that this cycling holiday, run in conjunction with our partners, Eurobike, is SELF-GUIDED. The route is signed, with route notes and map provided and all luggage transfers between hotels attended to. However there is NO accompanying cycle tour guide.

Challenge RatingThe route is flat to slightly hilly. You will cycle on bike trails, side roads, and sometimes on country lanes. Only short sections have to be cycled on roads with more traffic, especially when entering or leaving cities.

Route DetailsDay 1: Arrival in Sirmione/Desenzano
Tour infomation and hire bike fitting, if applicable. Acclimatise by taking a stroll through the old town!

Day 2: Trip to Trento approx. (35 miles + Boat Excursion)
Morning transfer by minibus to Trento (interesting old town with cathedral and castle) then you'll follow the river Adige via Rovereto to Mori towrds Lake Garda. After a short climb, it's downhill towards the lake at Torbole and on to Riva. From here, a boat trip take you the entire length of the lake returning you to Sirmione.

Day 3: Trip to Verona (approx. 35 miles)
Morning minibus or train transfer to Verona. The home of Romeo and Juliet is packed with Renaissance palaces, colourful squares, the Roman arena and many welcoming cafes. The route then crosses gently rolling hills past cypress trees and vineyards, returning you to the southern shore of Lake Garda

Day 4: Trip to Mantua (approx. 45 miles)
Todays trails will lead you along the river Mincio southwards to Mantua. This fabulous thousand-year-old town with its castle, piazzas, rotunda, clocktower and shady courtyards never fails to impress its visitors. Return train trip takes you back to the hotal at the end of the day.

Day 5: Trip into the History of Italy (approx. 35 miles)
Todays route takes quiet backroads through vineyards, peach orchards and kiwi plantations to the town of Solferino, where Garibaldi united Italy in the famous “Battle of Solferino”. Returning to Lake Garda, the route passes vineyards famous for the local lugana and pinot bianco wines with an opportunity to visit the presses and olive oil mills.

Day 6: Trip to Brescia (approx. 40 miles)
Following the shore towards Cavalgese di Riviera, today will offer unforgettable views of Lake Garda. The route then follows the Naviglio Grande Bresciano (canal with bike path) to Brescia with its Roman ruins and many places of interest. Return train to Sirmione.

Day 7: Departure
Other InfoBritish Airways, Easyjet and Monarch Airways all fly to Verona from Manchester and/or London Gatwick (different operators at each airport so please check).
