8 day self-guided cycling holiday in the Veneto region of Northern Italy

From lagoons and sandy beaches to the gentle hills of the Monti Berici and Euganean hills. From the green waters of the Adige and Sile rivers to the foothills of the Alps, the beautiful Veneto region of Northern Italy offers an unforgettable cycling tour for the discerning traveller. With cultural highlights including the lagoon city of Venice, the city of Palladio, Vicenza and Bassano del Grappa with its famous, medieval covered wooden bridge, you’ll also find picturesque little villages and towns where grape-vines famous for the Prosecco wine is pressed.

Each tour starts on a SATURDAY:

Route Details

Day 1: Arrival in Venice/Mestre at Hotel President
IYour first day includes an opportunity (depending on arrival time) to visit the lagoon city of Venice, located only 20 minutes from your hotel and easily reached by public transport.

Day 2: Mestre/Venice – Chioggia/Sottomarina (approx.30km)
Initial tour information meeting and bike fitting, then you’ll take the bike path over the Liberty Bridge to Venice followed by ferry transfer to Lido and on, via Pallestrina, to tonight’s hotel in Chioggia, with its wide sandy beach and many seafood restaurants.

Day 3: Chioggia/Sottomarina – Rovigo (approx. 65km)
Following quiet roads alongside the river Adige and through tranquil villages, today’s ride heads to Rovigo - a small, friendly town steeped in history and culture. You'll have plenty of time to explore its winding alleyways and spacious squares, and maybe while away some time in one of its many cosy cafés.

Day 4: Rovigo – Vicenza (approx. 60km + train trip)
Today’s ride stars with a short train ride the to Monselice from where you’ll ride through the gently rolling Euganean hills to Arquà Petrarca - small town that has managed to preserve its medieval character over the centuries. The route then continues along quiet roads into the foothills of the Monti Berici and tonight’s hotel in Vicenza.

Day 5: Vicenza – Bassano del Grappa (approx. 40km)
From Vicenza, you’ll head first to Marostica, famous for its castle and stone chess board in the main square and then Bassano del Grappa, with its covered wooden bridge and home of the famous Italian brandy, Grappa.

Day 6: Bassano del Grappa – Treviso (approx. 55km)
Today starts with a brisk uphill ride to the delightful Roman village of Asola. After a (welcome!) break the route descends gently into the grape-growing region of the world-famous Prosecco sparkling wine to tonight's hotel in the lively town of Treviso, headquarters of the bike manufacturer Pinarello.

Day 7: Treviso – Venice/Mestre (approx. 43km)
From Treviso, today’s ride follows the river Sile to Casale, bringing you back toward the starting point of your trip and tonight’s accommodation, located on the mainland just outside Venice. From here, the regular bus service can take you into the heart of this World Heritage Site, where you’ll have time to soak up the atmosphere of the fabulous lagoon city.

You will cycle on a mostly flat route. There will be one steeper climb to Asolo. Most roads are paved; partly you will find yourself on well-prepared nature trails. The tour is not very physically demanding.

Ride Gradings

Suitable for anyone who enjoys a reasonably active life. The pace is gentle and the terrain flat to undulating. Distances no more than 30 miles (50km).

Suitable for those with slightly more cycling experience. the terrain can be a little hillier than grade 1.5 and distances up to 45 miles (70km).

For the regular and reasonably fit cyclist. The terrain may include some challenging hills and distances up to 75 miles (110km).

These routes require a good level of fitness and stamina and feature challenging inclines and/or a longer time in the saddle. Distances can be up to 100 miles (160km).
